Multiple Hurt as Rough Air Hits A Delta Airlines Plane into Sydney
Multiple passengers and crew have been injured when a Delta Airlines aircraft originating in Los Angeles to Sydney was hit by significant turbulence Friday morning.
Flight DL41 "encountered brief turbulence" as it landed at the Sydney airport, an airline spokesperson informed. A number of the onboard staff were injured.
Emergency medical services said they evaluated a total of five people, and transported a trio to a medical facility with minor injuries that comprised pain in the back and head pain. The injured were between their 30s up to the 70s.
This marks the latest incident of planes being hit by atmospheric disturbance, with researchers pointing out that climate change is a significant contributor.
There were 245 people and a crew of 15 on the wide-body jet, the official noted, adding that the plane landed "safely and normally" at the airport at 6:48 a.m. local time on the day in question.
The NSW Ambulance Service said they received a call just three minutes before the plane arrived, and ambulances were standing by on the runway.
